Venerable Matthumagala Chandananda Thero
Venerable Matthumagala Chandananda Thero was born in 1972 and entered the Buddhist order in 2003, as a student of Venerable Kirioruwe Dhammananda Nayaka Thero and Venerable Kukulpane Sudassi Thero.
Upon completion of monastic training from the highly esteemed Sri Vinayalankaramaya temple in Pokunuwita, Sri Lanka, he received full ordination in 2004. He earned his B.A. degree in Buddhist Philosophy in 2009 and the M.A. Degree in 2010 at the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, a prestigious Asian University for Buddhist Studies. He has successfully completed a Diploma in Psychology and Counseling at the Institute of Psychological Studies in Sri Lanka, a fully accredited Institution for Psychological Studies. Upon a request of Alberta Buddhist Vihara Association, he came to Edmonton in 2011 and has been serving to Buddhist community since then. In 2013, he joined the University of Alberta as the Buddhist chaplain.
Venerable Chandananda Thero is currently reading for his M.Phil., and the topic of the research is: “A Comparative Study of the Traditional Buddhist Methods of Meditation and Their Usage in the North American Buddhist Centers”. He believes that this study will help priceless teachings of the Buddha to be preserved for future generations.
